Interviewer: After someone’s been arrested, released and charged with a DWI, what are some of the first things they need to do to figure out if they even need a lawyer, and how serious are the charges they’re facing?
Eric: In my opinion, anybody who’s ever been arrested always needs to have an attorney. Nobody should ever represent themselves, not even in traffic court, although the punishment that they would face in traffic court is less severe.
Anyone who’s even facing paying a simple fine or having points on their license that may lead to a license suspension, as well as those people who aren’t attorneys should never represent should never represent themselves in court.
Anybody who is charged with a crime should always have an attorney. Anytime you’re arrested it’s very serious, it should never just be taken for granted.
