Drunken Driving New York Woman Faces DUI Charge After Collision With Train In Montvale
MONTVALE— A middle aged New York woman was charged with driving under the influence after she crashed onto the tracks at the Montvale train station and was struck by a NJ Transit train. Police said the forty one year old woman entered the train station parking lot at about 3:30 p.m. and apparently drove onto the platform and then onto the train tracks.
Danielle R. King, 41, a resident of Yonkers, was driving a Chrysler PT Cruiser when the incident happened. According to John Durso Jr., a spokesman for NJ Transit, The car was hit by a Spring Valley-bound train with 30 customers aboard. Train traffic was interrupted until about 5 p.m, Durso said, with three trains delayed by the incident. The crash is being investigated by NJ Transit Police, who responded to the scene along with rail personnel who checked the condition of the train and tracks.
According to a statement released by the police in the press, the train engineer applied the emergency brakes but was unable to avoid striking the driver’s side of the Chrysler PT Cruiser driven by Danielle R. King.
King, who was also charged with careless driving, did not sustain any injuries, however, she was transported to the Bergen Regional Medical Center for observation. No injuries were reported among the passengers.
Police said that King could face penalties that could lead to serving jail time, paying a hefty fine and having her license suspended.
